Meet the Candidate: Sue Ann Penna

Sue Ann Penna is seeking election in November as a Republican candidate in the Third Ward.

As a lifelong resident of Bloomfield, I am extremely concerned about the direction the current administration has taken our town.  Home owners and renters are working harder and longer hours just to keep up with the increase in cost of living here in Bloomfield, due largely to the economic policies of this administration. Bloomfield has more and more consultants on the payroll. We have given 20 and 30 year tax abatements to developers and now the tax payer has to pick up the bill.  I am also deeply concerned about the rising crime rate.  Our residents have a right to feel safe in their neighborhoods.  Unfortunately, residents of the Third Ward are frustrated and feel completely ignored by the current administration.

The most important issue for me is property taxes.  We have seen an unprecedented number of property tax appeals, mostly in the Third Ward, because people are finding it harder and harder to afford to live here. I spoke to many Third Ward residents who are now working two jobs in order to make ends meet.  It is a disgrace that new families, along with lifelong residents, are finding they can't afford the tax increases.  And those increases are harder and harder to justify because we are not seeing an increase in services.  Rather, we have a fire department that is not even operating at its full capacity because of cuts to their budget. Something is very wrong.

People should vote for me because I will represent the needs not only of the Third Ward, but all of Bloomfield.  I care deeply about our town and I look forward to the opportunity to serve my fellow residents of the Third Ward with an eye on fiscal responsibility and an innovation of ideas and solutions to the problems we face.
