Trio Accused of Knifepoint Street Robbery Attempt

Two Bloomfield residents and one East Orange man face charges following late-night incident on Glenwood Avenue.

Three men were arrested in connection with a late night street robbery last Wednesday, police said.

John Sykes, 22, of Bloomfield, Timothy Melendez, 25, of East Orange, and Corey Christian, 21, of Bloomfield, were each arrested shortly after the incident after being identified by the victim, according to police.

A 19-year-old Bloomfield man approached Sgt. Michael Moleski shortly before 11:30 p.m. to report that three men just tried to rob him in the area of 250 Glenwood Ave., police said.

The victim told Moleski three men ran behind him, with one swinging a knife before he was able to escape without injuries, according to the report.

The victim told Moleski the men were still in the area and Moleski soon found the three men who were then identified by the victim, according to the report.

Sykes was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, conspiracy. His bail was set at $50,000.

Christian was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon and conspiracy. His bail was set at $30,000. 

Melendez was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, conspiracy, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. His bail was set at $70,000. 

Judge Vincent Pirone gave each man a court date of Thursday.
