Shots Fired on Berkeley Avenue, Suspect Arrested in Belleville
Police blotter for the period of May 21- June 4, 2012. The following information was supplied by the Bloomfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction for any of the arrests listed.
On May 27, at 1:16 a.m. police responded to a report of shots being fired on Berkeley Avenue.
Upon arrival, several residents from the area gave the officers a description of a suspect who they said fired the shots and fled the area in a white Nissan with NY license plates. The information was conveyed to the Communications Division and the State Police Emergency Network (SPEN.)
Soon afterward, the Belleville Police Department detained a suspect in the area of N 9th Street & Delavan Avenue in Belleville whose vehicle matched the description given to police by the Bloomfield PD. The suspect was positively identified and taken to Bloomfield Police HQ’s to be processed and charged with:
• Aggravated assault with a weapon (hand gun)

• Possession of a weapon (handgun)
• Possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose

• Possession of hollow point bullets
No further information is available regarding additional charges. The amount of bail is unknown at this time.
Spent shell casings were located and collected at the scene as evidence and damage was recorded to a vehicle in the area, the roadway and a traffic sign.
The investigation is ongoing. More details may be available at a later date.
BURGLARY
On May 21, on the 200 block of Washington Street, the front door of a residence was forced open but nothing was reported taken.
On May 23, on the 100 block of N. 16 Street, a rear window of a residence was breached and an unspecified amount of jewelry was reported missing.
On May, 30, on the 200 block of Watsessing Avenue, an apartment door was forced open. Proceeds from the burglary were one Apple Mac Book and one Sony Play Station.
On June 1, an Arlington Avenue business was broken into at 4:00 a.m. The suspect smashed the front window of the establishment with a rock, reached inside and stole a cash register.
On June 2, a Glenwood avenue business had its front door kicked in and a cash register was taken.
On June 3, on Brighton Avenue, entry was gained into a residence through a rear window. Proceeds from the burglary were various pieces of jewelry, including pearls.
On June 4, on Floyd Avenue a suspect dressed in dark clothing and carrying a backpack attempted to force open rear door and was confronted by homeowner. The suspect fled.
On June 4, on the 200 block of Watsessing Avenue, a victim reports that an unknown person forced open a side door and removed numerous pieces of jewelry.
BURGLARY INTO AUTO
On June, 2, between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., the fllowing items were repoirted stolen from a vehicle parked on Oakland Avenue: a GPS system, a radar detector, a cell phone, two IPODS, a gold necklace and a U.S. Air Force ring.
On June 2, on Cedar Street a victim stated that an unknown person entered his vehicle and an unspecific amount of items were missing.
On June 3, loose change and the vehicle registration and insurance card were stole from a car parked on the 100 block of Watsessing Avenue.
On June 3, the ignition was damaged and loose change was stolen from a vehicle parked on the 300 block of Ampere Parkway.
STOLEN VEHICLE
On May 26, on the 300 block of Glenwood Avenue, a 2005 Chrysler with NJ plates was stolen.
On May 26, on Berkeley Avenue at Fairview Place, a 1994 Honda with NJ license plates was reported stolen.
On May 31, on Ketner Street, a 2006 BMW with NJ license plates was stolen.
On June 2, near the corner of Floyd Avenue and Grove Street, a 1998 Dodge van with NJ license plates was stolen.
On June 3, on the 100 block of Bloomfield Avenue, a tan 1998 Dodge wagon with NJ license plates was stolen.
ATTEMPT THEFT AUTO
On May 21, on the 100 block of N 16 Street, an unknown person attempted to steal a 2010 Jeep.
THEFT
On May 22, a driver, after filling up his car at the Exxon gas station at 471 Bloomfield Avenue, attempted to drive away without paying. The gas station attendant reached into the tan-colored Jeep SUV trying to stop the suspect from driving away. The driver grabbed the attendant's arm and dragged him several feet before letting him go. The attendant also noticed a female passenger in the vehicle as it fled.
The attendant refused medical attention for his injuries at the scene. The suspect is described as a man wearing dreadlocks. The case is under investigation.
On May 22, the convenience store at 37 Carteret Street had 65 Star Ledger newspapers taken from the front of the store before it opened.
On May 25, at 23 Rutan Place, a victim states an unknown person stole his Jeep cover.
On June 30, on the 300 block of Bloomfield Avenue, an unknown suspect removed the front grill from one of the vehicles parked on his lot.
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
On May 23, on the 100 block of Baldwin Street, a 1994 GMC had its tail light and bumper damaged with a baseball bat.
ARRESTS
May 21 - Jaime Hernandez of Bloomfield was arrested for DWI.
May 23 – Officers were called to the scene of a fight in the area of Watsessing Park near Bloomfield Avenue. When the officers arrived and attempted to stop and question a juvenile, he attempted to flee. The officers were able to stop and frisk the juvenile, at which point he was found to be in possession of a loaded .38 caliber handgun. The juvenile was transported to HQ’s where he was turned over to the Youth Aid Division to be processed and charged.
May 24 -- Salvatore Gencarelli of Newark was arrested for DWI.
May 26 -- Charles Austin of Bloomfield was arrested for possession of a controlled and dangerous substance, and an FTA Warrant.
May 26 -- Lonnie Henderson of Montclair was arrested for possession of a controlled and dangerous substance.
May 27 -- Jose Rodriguez of Jersey City was arrested for Obstruction.
May 27 -- Javier Montas of Elmhurst NY was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Weapon, and Possession of Weapon for Unlawful Purpose.
May 29 -- Calvin Lashley of Bloomfield was arrested for Simple Assault.
May 29 -- Michael Hill of Newark was arrested for Aggravated Assault, Eluding and Resisting Arrest.
May 29 -- Shakir Dunn of Newark was arrested for Resisting Arrest.
May 29 -- Cassandra Pullin of Newark was arrested for Aggravated Assault.
May 30 -- Rhett Ellis of Newark was arrested for Shoplifting & Contempt.
June 2 -- Richard Pfister of Bloomfield was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
June 4 -- Joseph Monderoy of Montclair was arrested for DWI.
HAZMAT
On May 29, the Bloomfield Police and Fire despartments and Nutley Hazmat were called to the scene of an oil spill on Alva Street in Bloomfield. The undetermined amount of oil that was leaked was determined to be of the variety used for cooking and not to be a hazardous spill.
