Police Request Help in Locating Suspect in Sexual Assault

The Bloomfield Police Department is asking for the public's help in capturing a man suspected in a sexual assault on Saturday.

The following is a crime prevention public safety announcement posted on behalf of the Bloomfield Police Department.

At approximately 3:15 a.m. on Saturday a female in her late 20s was accosted by an unknown man as she exited her vehicle upon returning home from work in the area of Franklin Street at Hill Street. The victim was then dragged through numerous back yards before she was physically and sexually assaulted.

The suspect fled the scene, heading east on Franklin Street. Shortly after, the woman informed police of the incident while at a local hospital.

The suspect is described as a medium/dark skinned black male in his early 30s with a stocky build. In addition, he was described as being roughly 5'7" tall with a round, cleanly shaven face.

The investigation is currently on-going with assistance from the Essex County Prosecutors Office, as well as the New Jersey State police.
