Bloomfield Officials recognized two township police officers for their heroic response to a July armed robbery this week.
According to the proclamation read at this week’s council meeting, on Tuesday, July 23 at 11:54 p.m. Sergeant Michael Moleski and Officer Daniel Freitag responded to a report that an employee of a Bloomfield business had been robbed at gunpoint.
Sergeant Moleski located and stopped the suspects and their vehicle after a search and notified responding backup units of his location.
Sergeant Moleski held the suspects at bay until Officer Freitag arrived.
The officers approached the suspects, knowing them to be armed with a handgun and were able to successfully detain and arrest the men.
A loaded Smith and Wesson semi-automatic handgun was recovered from the suspect vehicle.
The employee reportedly identified the men as the robbers.
In the proclamation, Bloomfield Mayor Raymond McCarthy characterized the officers’ actions as brave and professional and noted that they disregarded their own safety to recover the handgun and apprehend three dangerous felons.
