Police Blotter: Newark Man Charged in Grove Street Carjacking

Two masked men armed with a handgun steal $479 on Franklin Street

Residential Burglary

May 4: A person reported that an unknown person gained entry into her home through the porch window in the 100 block section of Parkway Est. and some jewelry was missing afterwards.

May 6: A person reported that an unknown suspect kicked in her door at her home in the 100 block section of Ella Street between the hours of 9:40 a.m. and 2:40 p.m. and stole a gold necklace worth $1,000.

May 8: A person reported that someone had broken through the basement window of his home in the 100 block section of Golf Road and stole several items including a computer.

May 3: A 1994 Honda, two-door silver car with the New Jersey license plate number of  YMH75D was reported stolen from the 100 block of Osborne Street.

May 3: A person reported that someone had broken into the rear driver side window of his vehicle that was parked in the 100 block of Orange Street between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and stole a GPS unit.

Theft

May 3: A person reported that someone had stolen $339 in cash from the front counter of a business in the 100 block of Ward Street. 

May 6: A person reported that a group of youths at Holsten's at Broad and Watchung avenues, walked past her, stole her wallet, and fled on Broad Street.

Robbery

May 5: A person reported that an unknown male robber grabbed her from behind at Franklin and Fremont streets at 7:10 a.m., stole $3 from her pocketbook, and then fled on Liberty Street.

May 6: A person reported that at 10:20 p.m. he was approached by three young black males who demanded his money at Waldo Avenue and Ampere Parkway.  The youths then beat the victim in the face and head, stole his iPod, and fled the area on foot south on Ampere Parkway.

May 7: A person reported that two black men wearing ski masks and one of whom armed with a black handgun approached him at a store in the 100 block of Franklin Street at 11:45 a.m. and demanded money. After taking $479, they entered a vehicle manned by another suspect and fled the area. 

Criminal Mischief

May 3: A person reported that an unknown suspect keyed her car's side in the 100 block of Mill Street.  Another person also reported his vehicle was also keyed in the same area.

May 4: A person reported that an unknown person spray painted "DNA" in red paint on the side of her building located in 100 block of First Avenue.

May 7: A person reported that an unknown person poured a liquid into the gas tank of his vehicle parked in the 100 block of Washington Street. 

Arrests

May 4: Henry Young of Newark was arrested for outstanding warrants from the Essex County Sheriff's Office.

May 4: Sahib Patterson of East Orange was arrested for shoplifting.

May 4: Neil Ciccone of Bloomfield was arrested for burglary and theft.

May 5: James Bittle of Newark was arrested for drug paraphernalia, possession of prescription drugs, and panhandling.

May 7: David Porcelli of Montclair was arrested for possession of a weapon.

May 7: Miquel  Nunez of Bloomfield was arrested for an outstanding warrant.

May 7: Ibn Wilson of Newark was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery in connection with an armed robbery on the same day on Franklin Street. See entry above under the title Robbery.

May 8: Marquis Wilson of Newark was arrested and charged with carjacking, possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in connection with the carjacking of a black Jaguar at 59 Grove Street on May 7. That black Jaguar was recovered in Newark as detailed Police did not say if Wilson was one of the two people who were arrested in Newark with the stolen vehicle.
