Pair Accused of Assaulting Bloomfield Man

Two men charged with aggravated assault after 25-year-old found injured in the area of Chester Avenue and Ampere Parkway early Sunday morning.

Two men were each charged with aggravated assault after a Bloomfield man was found injured lying in the street early Sunday morning, police said.

Bruce Williams, 26, of Irvington, and Terrance Murphy, 28, of Newark, were each charged with aggravated assault and endangering an injured victim.

According to a Bloomfield police report, officers responded to a report of a fight in the area of Chester Avenue and Ampere Parkway shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday.

Officer Mel Pascua was first on the scene where he found a 25-year-old Bloomfield resident lying on the ground and injured.

Police said the victim was too disoriented to describe his attackers but witnesses gave officers a good description of the two men who had committed the assault before running south on Ampere Parkway.

Police set up a perimeter and Officer Thomas Lutz found two men fitting the description on Floyd Avenue. The two were arrested after witnesses identified them as the attackers, police said.

Bail was set at $85,000 each by Judge Vincent Pirone and a court date of July 3, is pending.
