Ex-Bloomfield Teacher Pleads Guilty to Sexual Contact With Teen Student

David Scheck faces up to five years in state prison for touching 15-year-old girl in 2007.

A former West Morris Central High School teacher pleaded guilty Monday to illegal sexual contact with a minor and could serve five years in state prison, Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp announced.

David Scheck, 31, of North Brunswick pleaded guilty to third degree official misconduct and fourth degree criminal sexual contact, admitting that he sent text messages and instant messages that were sexual in nature to a 15-year-old girl, Knapp said.

Scheck also admitted to contacting the victim’s genital area for the purpose of sexual gratification. The crimes took place in 2007 when Scheck was 24. At the time of his arrest in November 2007, Scheck was working for the Bloomfield Board of Education. His employment was terminated in January 2008.

The plea agreement recommends Scheck serve five years in state prison with two years parole ineligibility as well as Megan’s Law Registration. In addition, Scheck is prohibited from having contact with the victim, will forfeit his teacher’s license and is not allowed to be employed in the public sector in the future.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 18, 2014.
