Burglar Breaks in with Brick; Man Passes Out in Running Car

Police blotter for week of May 8-13, 2012. The following information was supplied by the Bloomfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction for any of the arrests listed.

 

BURGLARY

A Bloomfield man was arrested for burglary and possession of stolen property on May 11, after police officers responded to a burglary in progress on Walnut Street.

After determining that a brick was used to break a rear glass / screen door, the officers learned that the resident heard someone run towards the back of the property.  Hearing someone running through bushes and jumping fences nearby,  officers were able locate the suspect in the rear yards of Pine Street towards Jerome Place.   When officers ordered him to stop, he fled west through the yards until he was spotted again in rear yard in the 100 block of Jerome Place. The suspect, a white male wearing dark clothing, again refused to comply with orders to stop.  Officers were able to hold their position on the perimeter and take the suspect into custody.

Seth Dupree of Bloomfield was arrested for Burglary, Possession of Stolen Property.

Dupree had an active warrant from the City of Newark for $500 and was charged in Bloomfield with the following:

  • Burglary
  • Unlawful possession of a weapon
  • Obstructing
  • Criminal

 Bail was set at $75,000.00.  

 

On May 9, a detective from the East Orange police department noticed three individuals walking in a suspicious manner on Dodd Street and Midland Avenue near the East Orange/ Bloomfield border. The individuals were stopping and looking at homes and crossing back and forth from one side of the street to the other. When they ended up on the front porch of a residence on Laurel Avenue in Bloomfield, the detective saw them walk around the side of the home and enter a porch enclosure through a window. The detective called for back-up and notified Bloomfield PD of the situation.  As police units arrived on scene, the individuals attempted to flee but were unsuccessful. 

Police arrested two juveniles and one adult, identified as Lawrence T Claiborne, age 18, from Glenwood Avenue in East Orange.  They were turned over to Bloomfield Police Patrol Division and transported to Police headquarters. The adult was charged with Burglary and Possession of controlled dangerous substance (marijuana). Bail was set at $50,000.

 

On May 9, someone entered a rear door of a residence on the 600 block of E. Passaic Avenue and took someone collectable coins and railroad certificates.

 

On May 11, a woman on Overlook Terrace woke up to find her living room window and front door open.  She reported a Dell laptop and several pieces of crystal were missing.

 

On May 11, a residence was burglarized on Walnut Street.  At the time of this report, the proceeds taken are unknown.

 

On May 11, several pieces of jewelry were taken from a Lombard Street residence.  The point of entry is unknown.

 

BURGLARY INTO AUTO

On May 8, a Garmin GPS unit was stolen from a vehicle at 60 Orange Street, the Home Depot.

 

On May 11, a 2010 Dodge parked on Molter Place at Watsessing Avenue was broken into and a black bag containing prescription bottles, two sets of keys, and six gun magazines were taken.

 

On May 11, a 2005 Nissan on Smith Street was broken into and the registration card was reported missing.

 

STOLEN VEHICLE

On May 9, a 1997 Honda Accord with NJ license plates was stolen on the 200 block of Berkeley Avenue.

 

On May 11, a 1998 Honda Civic with NJ license plates was stolen on Willow Street.

 

THEFT FROM VEHICLES

On May 10, a vehicle on Oak Street was entered but nothing was reported missing.

 

THEFT

On May 10, A resident of the 100 block of Evans Road reported that a UPS package was taken off his porch. The package contained 8 pillows.

 

On May 12, an unknown person removed four tires and rims off of his vehicle, parked on the 400 block of Abington Avenue.

 

ROBBERY

On May 13, a man reported being physically assaulted and robbed on Park Avenue.  One set of Motorola headphones was taken, along with one True Religion jacket, two watches and a bottle of prescription medication. 

 

ARRESTS

On May 8, John Salvanto 3rd of Belleville was arrested for Contempt, Burglary.

 

On May 9,  Christian Chirino of West New York was arrested for Contempt.

 

On May 11, Bloomfield man was arrested for burglary and possession of stolen property after police officers responded to a burglary in progress on Walnut Street.

In the process of his interview at police headquarters, While Mr. Dupree he also admitted to burglarizing several other homes.  Proceeds from those burglaries were recovered from his residence.

Dupree had an active warrant from the City of Newark for $500 and was charged in Bloomfield with the following:

  • Burglary
  • Unlawful possession of a weapon
  • Obstructing
  • Criminal

 Bail was set at $75,000.00.  

 

On May 13, officers were called to JFK Drive North on the report of an unconscious man behind the wheel of a parked, running car.  The driver, Naeem Harrington of East Orange, was asleep and unresponsive to verbal commands.  After several attempts, the officers were able to wake Harrington and administer field sobriety tests, which he failed. 

Harrington was taken to Belleville Pd and also given a breath test. He was issued summonses for DUI and driving with a suspended drivers license.  He was released to a family member and given a Municipal Court date of May 17, 2012.  The owner of the vehicle was also issued a summons for allowing a suspended driver to operate a motor vehicle under the influence.

 

On May 13, Richard Epps Jr. of Bloomfield was arrested for Warrants.

 

On May 13, Juan Diaz of Bloomfield was arrested for Disorderly Conduct.
