Bloomfield Police Officer Honored for DUI Arrests

Officer Piscitelli garners award for second year in a row.

On April 24, Officer Luca Piscitelli will receive the Top Gun Award from the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, Division of Highway Traffic Safety.

This award is given to the leader in each of New Jersey’s 21 counties, to the officer that makes the most drunk driving arrests in their respective county.

Officer Piscitelli made 37 DUI arrests in 2012, surpassing the 21 he made in 2011 when he was also presented with the Top Gun Award for Essex County.

Officer Piscitelli was sworn-in as a Township of Bloomfield Police Officer on March 17, 2006, and graduated from the Essex County Police Academy on August 11, 2006, in the top of his class. Since graduating he has taken classes and received certifications in radar operating, traffic accident investigation, crash scene investigation, field sobriety testing, crash reconstruction, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement, Tactical Combat Casualty Care.

In addition to his “Top Gun” awards, Officer Piscitelli was awarded a Letter of Recognition by the Attorney General’s Office in 2010 for the 20 DWI arrests he made that year and has received 5 Letters of Commendation from the Bloomfield Police Department.

Officer Piscitelli was born and raised in Bayonne, graduated from Bayonne High School in 1999, and then earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design from Montclair State University in 2003.

Officer Piscitelli will receive the award at the New Jersey Remembers ceremony on April 24, at 11 a.m. at the Trenton War Memorial at 1 Memorial Drive in Trenton.
