Bloomfield Man Stole Chain From Woman’s Neck, Police Say

Belleville resident was walking on Bloomfield Avenue when her necklace was stolen last week.

A township man was arrested after ripping a necklace from a woman's neck while she was walking on Bloomfield Avenue last week, police said.

Joshua K. Myrie, 20, was charged with robbery after matching the description provided by the victim, police said.

Officer Hector Cartegena responded to a report of a robbery on the 100 block of Bloomfield Avenue shortly after 2:30 p.m. last Thursday.

An 18-year-old Belleville woman said a man wearing a white shirt and black shorts stole a gold chain from around her neck before running toward Berkeley Avenue, police said.

Officer Edward Dwyer and Sgt. Gary Peters stopped Myrie, who matched the description the victim provided, in the area of Watsessing and Berkeley avenues.

Police said the victim identified Myrie as the thief.

Judge John A Paparazzo set bail at $50,000 and a court date of July 24.
