Bloomfield Man Fought Off, Chased Down Would-Be Carjacker, Cops Say

Man allegedly tried to steal truck as it was warming up on Ampere Parkway.

A Bloomfield resident fought off and chased a man trying to steal his pick-up truck, police said.

Miguel Tehuitzel, 20, of Bloomfield, allegedly entered and tried to drive off in a 2004 Ford pickup that was left running on Ampere Parkway to warm up the engine at about 7:45 a.m. Monday. 

The 43-year-old Bloomfield man who owned the truck saw Tehuitzel and confronted him, police said. The owner and Tehuitzel struggled for control of the truck, police said.

Tehuitzel ended up running away without the vehicle, with the truck’s owner chasing him, according to police. Officer Anthony Piccinno found the truck’s owner, who spotted Tehuitzel at the corner of Waldo Avenue and Grove Street.

Officer Piccinno stopped Tehuitzel and arrested him after the truck’s owner identified him, police said

Tehuitzel was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with carjacking. Judge John Paparazzo set bail at $100,000 and a court date of Jan. 22 is pending.
