Bloomfield Man Accused of Rigging Utility Services for Free Power, Gas at Restaurant

Officials say man tampered with security devices after having power turned off at New York state restaurant.

Police charged a Bloomfield man with allegedly stealing gas and electricity from a New York State power company to power his Rockland County restaurant, according to published reports.

Marco Maldonaldo-Estrella, 41, of Bloomfield, faces two misdemeanor counts of theft of services from Orange and Rockland Utilities Inc. after allegedly stealing 6,651 kWh units of electricity and 897 ccf units of natural gas after power was cut off to his business, Tipico BBQ, New York paper the Journal News reports.

A spokesman for the utility company said Maldonaldo-Estrella may face larceny charges based on the amount allegedly stolen.
