Armed Robberies on Thomas Street and North 15 Street

The following information has been provided by the Bloomfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

 

Two men have been arrested for their alleged roles in an attempted robbery on Thomas Street March 2.

The victim reported that the men approached her as she was getting out of her car on Thomas Street near Washington Street last Friday.  When one of the men pointed a silver handgun at her and demanded her wallet, the woman screamed for help.  The suspects fled without taking any money.

Bloomfield Officers Mike Moleski and Davin Lehman, assisted by Montclair Police Officer Steven Iberer, were able to get a positive identification of one of the men.   After his arrest, police gathered more information that led to the arrest of the second man.

John Plaza of Montclair is charged with robbery, conspiracy, possession of weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. Plaza’s bail has been set at $250,000. Jordan Hooks of Orange is charged with robbery and conspiracy and his bail has been set at $100,000.

Weekly Crime Report

ROBBERY

On Thursday, March 1, a man on the 100 block of North 15 Street reported that he was approached by two men, one of whom had a gun.  The men stole two cell phones and fled in a white Cadillac.  The car was later recovered in Newark.  This is an ongoing investigation.  Anyone with information should call the Bloomfield Police Department – 973-680-4141.

 

BURGLARY

Friday, March 2, two Edison Street residences were broken into and robbed.

In one incident, the front door was forced open at a 2nd Floor Edison Street residence.  One Apple laptop, 1 Canon digital camera and some jewelry were stolen.

A basement window was forced open at a 1st floor Edison Street residence.  Various types of jewelry were stolen.

On Friday, March 2, a rear window was broken of a home on the 300 block of Broughton Avenue.  An IPad and some jewelry were stolen.

On Saturday, March 3, a 42-inch LCD TV was stolen from a residence on the 100 block of Franklin Street.  There were no signs of forced entry.

On Monday, March 5, a resident on the 300 block of Broughton Avenue reported that, between the hours of 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm, an unknown person stole a large metal safe from his bedroom closet that contained cash and documents.

3-3-2012  The 900 block of Broad St. a 2010 Chrysler (NJ Reg)

3-3-2012  On the 200 block of Nth17st. a Honda Civic (NJ Reg)

 

ATTEMPTED AUTO THEFT

3-4-2012  On the 200 block of Berkeley Avenue there was an attempt theft of a 2003 Audi.

 

THEFT FROM VEHICLES

3-2-2012 - Birch Street.  A 2005 Toyota had two sets of fog lamps removed.

3-2-2012 -100 block of Washington Street.  A 2001 Ford Pick Up truck had the driver side door lock and ignition damaged. Work tools were removed from the vehicle.

3-4-2012 -Donald Street A 2007 Toyota. (Possibly unlocked), had a laptop missing.

3-4-2012  On John Street.  A 2011 Ford (possibly unlocked), a Coleman flashlight and 5.00 in change are missing.

3-5-2012 - Walnut Street.  The rims and tires were stolen from a man’s car while it was parked at his home overnight.

3-5-2012 - Van Winkle Street.  The victim stated that an unknown person entered his car and stole a Garmin GPS unit, an I-Phone charger, and an air freshener.

 

THEFT

2-29-2012- Carteret Street.   The victim stated that an unknown man stole all the newspapers delivered to his shop.

 

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

3-4-2012  On the 200 block of Broughton Ave. Spray paint on rear cellar door.

 

ARRESTS

2-29-2012  Sarah Martin of Newark was arrested for Warrants.

3-3-2012  Jordan Hooks of Orange was arrested for Robbery, Conspiracy

3-3-2012  John Plaza of Montclair was arrested for Robbery, Conspiracy, Possession of Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an unlawful purpose.

3-3-2012 Jose Echievarria-Ortiz of Paterson was arrested for Agg. Assault.

3-5-2012  Carl Furguson of Bloomfield was arrested for assault.

3-5-2012  Donelle Bellot of Bloomfield was arrested for an outstanding warrant.

3-5-2012  James Rouse of Newark, N.J. was arrested for outstanding warrants.

3-6-2012  George Attys of Orange, N.J. was arrested for contempt.

3-6-2012  Larry Amons of Newark, N.J. was arrested for contempt of court.
