Alleged Teen Car Burglars Arrested, Cops Say

Police suspect the pair broke into at least four cars.

Two teens were arrested for breaking into cars in Bloomfield, police say.

According to police reports, Bloomfield police officers Robert Kish and Edward Dwyer responded to a report of thefts from cars parked in the area of 1st Ave. near N 15th St. on Monday, Sept. 23. They reportedly found two males in the area fitting a witness' description of the thieves: Washir Singletary, 19, of Newark and an unidentified juvenile accomplice from Newark. 

After police arrested the teens, they reportedly found two screwdrivers used to gain entry into the vehicles nearby.

Police believe at least four vehicles had recently been broken into.

Singletary was charged with Burglary, Hindering, Conspiracy, Possession of burglary tools and Employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime.

Judge John Paparazzo set bail at $50,000. Singletary was taken to Essex County jail.


The juvenile arrestee was charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools before being taken home to Newark and released.
