' Music Saved My Life '

. Alice Herz-Sommer, believed to be the oldest-known Holocaust survivor and pianist, died Sunday morning February 23, in London at the age of 110, a family member said. . . She was born on November 26, 1903 in Prague, and at age 5 started learning the piano from her sister. She especially loved the music of Polish composer Frederic Chopin, who pre-dated World War 2 by one hundred years. . . Herz-Sommer’s devotion to her love of classical music and to her son sustained her through two years in a Nazi prison camp. She died in a hospital Sunday morning after being admitted the previous Friday, daughter-in-law Genevieve Sommer said. . . Alice recently appeared in a moving documentary film, "The Lady in Number6: Music Saved My Life, " which has won the Award for best short documentary at the Acadamy Awards in Los Angeles. . . Historical testament to a truly extraordinary woman.  .
