Electric Powered Trains Return to Hoboken

A key power substation has been repaired and two trains will be added to the Montclair-Boonton Line.

As of Sunday, March 24, electric-powered trains will run to and from the Hoboken Terminal again, New Jersey Transit announced on Tuesday afternoon.

It's for the first time since Hurricane Sandy that the electric trains resume service.

After that day, the agency will be at 97 percent of its service, compared to pre-Sandy levels.

In a statement, NJ Transit Executive Director James Weinstein said, “This marks significant progress in post-Sandy recovery."

Weinstein added that as of March 24, there will be 21 additional trains added to the current schedules, "which will restore nearly all rush hour service to Hoboken and result in the long-awaited return of standard one-seat service to Hoboken for Gladstone customers."
