Macculloch Hall Hosts Annual Benefit Wine Tasting

Macculloch Hall Hosts Annual Benefit Wine Tasting

Macculloch Hall Historical Museum in Morristown will host its eighth annual Wine Tasting benefit on Saturday, May 7th at 6pm.  This popular event allows guests to see Macculloch Hall at its finest, when the beautiful historic gardens are blooming with spring bulbs.  Guests may enjoy a sampling of wines offered by Lou Manzo. Mr. Manzo’s passion and enthusiasm for wine spans over a course of 30 years. As Chapter Director for the Tasters Guild and a recent retiree from Gary’s Wine and Marketplace, Lou plans and delivers extensive offerings for wine tastings. His years of tasting expertise, sense of humor and excellent communications skills make wine appreciation fun and unintimidating. Mr. Mango will present a range of Wines from Around the World and a hearty selection of complementary hors d'oeuvres will be served. Guests may also participate in a silent auction and 50-50 raffle and explore the museum’s period rooms and historic gardens.

During the event guests will be able to enjoy viewing the exhibition Hearth and Home: A Century of Family Life.  The exhibit explores 100 years of American life at home through the generations of the family who lived, worked, played, and learned here.  The most common domestic occurrences—food preparation, housework, childrearing, and related activities—provide a through-the-keyhole perspective into those who lived a sustainable lifestyle circa 1810 -1910 in Morristown, New Jersey.

As guests visit the period rooms of the home on the second floor they will also have the opportunity to view another exhibit, Coming of Age:  Early American Silversmiths; Masters, Apprentices, Trade Partners and Taste.  Co-curated by the museum’s Curator of Collections Ryan Hyman and member Ken Miller, the exhibit explores the relationships between various makers in Boston, New York, and Philadelphia, the centers of 18th century American silver making.  The museum’s collection complements objects on loan from private collectors, featuring pieces made by renowned silversmiths including Paul Revere, Jr. of Boston, Myer Myers of New York, and Joseph Richardson, Sr. of Philadelphia.
