Peri Smilow Sings the Great American [Jewish] Songbook

Peri Smilow, a nationally recognized singer/songwriter, in a nod to her Broadway roots, brings a unique approach to the Great American Songbook.  Many of the enduring standards of twentieth century popular song, were composed by Jews, including the Gershwin brothers, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim.

Working with her musical director and piano accompanist, Ed Alstrom, Peri has selected a dazzling array of songs—some well-known and some delightful rarities—from the Broadway stage and from Hollywood.  Peri and Ed debuted this program to great acclaim at the biennial gathering of the Union for Reform Judaism in Washington, D.C.  and have reprised the show at  Greenwich Village’s legendary Cornelia Street Café.

Musical Director, Ed Alstrom, has played with such legendary performers as Donald Fagen, Levon Helm, Marvin Hamlisch and Bette Midler. He is an in-demand session musician, and the organ player at Yankee Stadium.
