With Irene Gone, Is Katia Next For East Coast?

Major hurricane forming in the warm waters of the Atlantic, forecasters say.

As North Jersey continues to feel the effects of Hurricane Irene, another powerful storm is brewing in the Atlantic and barreling toward the East Coast, forecasters said Tuesday.

Tropical Storm Katia was on the cusp of becoming a hurricane Tuesday and the National Weather Service predicts it will be a "major" hurricane by Saturday.

It's too soon to tell whether Katia will impact the East Coast, but currently models have it turning north as it passes Puerto Rico.

Forecasters were predicting Tuesday that there was a chance the storm could then move out to sea, but said it's too early to tell.

If Katia did impact the East Coast, it would be sometime late next week, they said.
