A small protest outside Town Hall was followed by a confrontational public session at Tuesday’s township council meeting, when a group of citizens demanded an explanation as to why the Board of Health rejected a home for a dog named Memphis.

At a town hall forum about Memphis the pit bull, an expert said the dog is not yet ready for adoption – and won’t be until he is fully rehabilitated.

Jim Crosby, a Florida animal expert hired by Bloomfield Township, said on Thursday he conducted a thorough evaluation of the dog, who has become famous locally.

Following another forceful public comment session at last night’s township council meeting, Councilman Bernard Hamilton said the adoption of Memphis the pit bull had to be resolved for the good of the township.

At Monday night’s Town Council meeting, the room was again filled to capacity as animal advocates pleaded with Bloomfield officials to allow Memphis the pitbull to be adopted.  

Saturday’s Walk a Mile for Memphis event was the latest effort by local animal advocates to convince the township to let Bloomfield dog trainer Jeff Coltenback adopt a homeless pitbull named Memphis.

Millburn Police recently arrested a Bloomfield man, Guy Colavito, 45, for burglary and theft, after asking for help through media outlets last month.

The letter was written to the Board of Education by Bloomfield parent, Bea Binkowska and presented during the public portion of Tuesday night's meeting.

A Union County middle school teacher and owner of a Parsippany youth sports academy was arrested last week for allegedly having sexual contact with an underage teenage girl, authorities said.

In honor of its upcoming two-year anniversary, Anthony's Cheesecake Cafe will soon be serving dinner. 

The popular café will be open three nights a week for dinner, starting September 27, said owner Anthony Lauro. Already one of Bloomfield’s top breakfast and lunch destinations, Anthony’s will mark its two-year anniversary on October 1.

The man was walking along Grove Street to the station at around 10:40 p.m. when he was approached by two young men on bikes who asked him for a dollar, according to Sgt. Anthony Servedio, spokesperson for the Bloomfield Police Department. The man gave the duo a dollar, continued walking and purchased a train ticket.
