Public Retirees In And Near Bloomfield Earn More Than $100,000 Annually

Several former public employees in Bloomfield and Montclair are part of the so-called "$100K" club, receiving more than $100,000 in pensions from the state of New Jersey.

Last year, a total of 1,244 former employees collected more than $100,000, according to New Jersey Watchdog. This number has jumped by 28 percent since 2010, according to the online investigative reporting site.

At the top of that list is former Essex County College president A. Zachary Yamba, whose pension is $195,000 a year.

From Bloomfield, Joseph L. Intile, the one-time chief of the Bloomfield Fire Department, earns $113,834 a year.  Michael Sisco, the former chief of the Bloomfield Police Department, also is a member of the $100K club, earning $112,046 a year.

Others from Bloomfield include Timothy E. McCormick, at $105,988 a year; Stevan L. Cooper, at $104,270 a year; Thomas Pelaia, at $102,011 a year; Bruce P. Reed, at $100,811 a year; and Michael R. Fiumefreddo, at $100,025 a year.

On the list from Montclair is former assistant schools superintendent Ida T. (Terry) Trigg-Scales, whose pension is $109,636 a year, according to the list.

Others from Montclair include William Frazzano, former police captain, earning $101,528 a year; Roger S. Terry, former deputy chief of police and current council member, earning $100,989 a year; Robert M. McLoughlin, earning $100,920 a year; and Donald S. Gonzalez, earning $100,439 a year.

The $100K club includes 383 retirees from the Teachers’ Pension and Annuity Fund, 253 from the Judicial Retirement System, and also 99 retirees from the Public Employee Retirement System, New Jersey Watchdog reported.

Some larger New Jersey cities, such as Hoboken, have as many as 24 former public employees on the list. Hoboken's highest pensions go to former fire and police chiefs.
