Limited Service on Montclair-Boonton Line Begins Wednesday

NJ Transit announces limited train schedule for Montclair-Boonton line, which runs through Bloomfield's two stations

Limited service on the Montclair-Boonton line to New York City and Hoboken will resume Wednesday morning, New Jersey Transit announced.

Service will operate during peak periods between 6 and 10 a.m. and 4 and 8 p.m. as follows: One train to Penn Station New York per hour and one train to Hoboken Terminal per hour.

Service will also operate on a limited basis due to single-track operations during off-peak hours, NJ Transit said in a press release. These off-peak trains will makes tops between Penn Station New York and Montclair State University.

"The restoration of limited Montclair-Boonton service to New York and Hoboken is another step forward for NJ Transit rail customers,” said Transportation Commissioner and NJ Transit Board Chairman James Simpson in a press release. "We ask that customers be mindful that our rail service into New York Penn remains limited. Customers are encouraged our to try NJ Transit's emergency bus and ferry operations for their commutes into Jersey City, Weehawken, as well as into midtown and lower Manhattan."

NJ Transit rail crews, including electric traction workers, maintenance-of-way staff and signal maintainers, are working on restoration of lines, including the Montclair-Boonton line. Crews have removed fallen trees, replaced signal wires and power systems and also repaired rail damage incurred at critical locations, NJ Transit said.

Testing of the Montclair-Boonton tracks, switches and both power and signal systems were completed Tuesday.

The Montclair-Boonton line runs through Bloomfield's two train stations, Bloomfield and Watsessing Avenue.
