Jury Deliberations Begin for Bloomfield Doctor Accused of Sexually Assaulting Patient

Raymond Russomano faces two counts of attempted sexual assault, 13 counts of criminal sexual contact

Jury deliberations have started for a Bloomfield doctor charged with sexually assaulting his female patient four years ago, The Star-Ledger reported.

Longtime physician Raymond Russomano, 67, is accused of sexually assaulting a 27-year-old woman during routine medical visits at his office in Bloomfield. The woman recorded one of her visits using a hidden camera.

Russomano faces two counts of attempted sexual assault and 13 counts of criminal sexual contact. If convicted on the sexual assault charges, he could face up to 10 years in prison. The criminal sexual contact charges carry sentences of up to 18 months in prison as fourth degree crimes. However, the doctor, who does not have a criminal record, could receive probation.

The jury started deliberations in the trial, which began last week, shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday in Superior Court in Newark.
