Hello Bloomfield Community!

A letter from the editor

September is traditionally a month of new beginnings: a new school year, a new season for sports, changing weather and life revving up again after the summer break.  So with all the new beginnings this time of year, it’s fitting that this week, Sept. 12, I will begin as the new editor of Bloomfield Patch.

As many people already know, Patch.com is a community-based news source, covering local happenings and events.  Patch now has websites in more than 800 towns and cities across the U.S.  Based on the idea that people tend to care most about what’s happening in their own patch of the world, Patch.com has rapidly become a trusted information source for our readers.

As a Patch editor, I bring a lot of experience as a community-minded resident myself.  I’ve spent the past 15 years involved in community events and volunteering for the public schools and various charitable organizations.  I founded a literacy initiative called the Children’s Literary Salon and exhibited in art shows to raise funds for abused children.  I’ve also worked on international human rights projects.

Professionally, I’ve worked as a photographer, a teacher and a writer.  I spent the past year working at various Essex County Patch sites as a reporter, photographer and interim editor.  This summer I was the interim editor of Montclair Patch, and was delighted when the opportunity arose to become the permanent editor of Bloomfield Patch.

I have lived in the greater New York-metro area most of my adult life.  While I have raised my children in Montclair, I have close family (including a twin sister) who live in Bloomfield.  For many years, my children have participated in sports and cultural events in the Bloomfield area, and our family has enjoyed the recreational activities, parks and restaurants here.  I love the rich cultural diversity of Bloomfield and the community spirit that is so evident in this town.

I look forward to working at Bloomfield Patch and getting to know you and the issues you care about.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me with news of local happenings.  I’ll do my best to cover events that are of interest to this community.

You can reach me by email at Linda@Patch.com or by phone at (973) 619-4406.  Follow me on Twitter @BloomfieldPatch for all the up-to-date news.

I hope to see you around town very soon!
