Hang onto Your Hat: High Winds Expected

Scattered power outages reported in Essex County

Even Abraham Lincoln better hang onto his hat this Presidents Weekend. High winds are expected to continue moving through the region until late Saturday, the National Weather Service says. 

PSE&G is reporting a small number of power outages in Livingston and other Essex County communities, according to PSEG.

 “There are scattered power outages throughout the state,” reports Melissa Ficuciello, a PSE&G spokesman. “It’s probably going to go on until the storm passes through.”

A wind advisory issued by the weather service warns that northwest winds could reach 30 miles per hour with gusts hitting 55 miles per hour. 

State officials have issued a "motorcycle/car pulled trailer ban" on the New Jersey Turnpike because of the high winds.

 The National Weather Service forecast for the days ahead warns of wind and some snow. The hazardous weather outlook for Bloomfield is:

  • Tonight: Cloudy with periods of snow after midnight. Low 29F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Snow accumulating 1 to 3 inches.
  •  Presidents Day, Monday: A mix of wintry precipitation in the morning. Then cloudy with some lingering showers in the afternoon. High around 40F. E winds shifting to NNW at 10 to 15 mph.
