Demarest School Wins National Environmental Competition

This week, the Environmental Protection Agency announced that Demarest Elementary School won the agency’s Energy Star National Building Competition, “Battle of the Buildings” after reducing its energy use by 52 percent. With the help of alternative energy consultants Synergistic Energy Solutions, School reduced its energy use with simple, inexpensive strategies.

BPD Officer Receives "Top Gun Award"

On Wednesday, April 24, Bloomfield Police Officer Luca Piscitelli will receive the Top Gun Award from the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety. This award is given to the officer that makes the most drunk driving arrests in their respective county. Officer Piscitelli made 37 DUI arrests in 2012.

Bloomfield Tech on US News & World Report’s “Best High Schools in America” List

This week, U.S. News and World Report awarded Bloomfield Tech a bronze medal in its list of the best schools in the country. Bloomfield Tech, part of the Essex County Vocational Technical Schools, was among 14 New Jersey vocational-technical schools to receive a bronze medal. On its website, US News said the awards were based on student performance on state language arts and math accountability tests, particularly the performance of disadvantaged students, and student participation in and performance on Advanced Placement (AP) exams and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams.

Brookdale Kids Flash Back to the '80s at Talent Night

The theme for this year's Brookdale Elementary talent show was "Rock of Ages." The '80s were on full display with the students took the audience back to the days of big hair, neon cloths, Madonna, Michael Jackson and more.
