Bloomfield Schools Budget Cuts 86 Teacher Jobs

The budget passed by a divided school board at their special meeting on Tuesday, March 5, entails the loss of 86 teaching jobs for the district, as well as between four and five secretaries and two to four members of the administrative staff. Bloomfield Schools Superintendent Jason Bing emphasized that the numbers were tentative and said that he and the board would work to reduce the number of layoffs before the budget is finalized on March 27.

Police: Men Used Fake Gun in Failed Robbery Attempt

Police say two men unsuccessfully attempted to rob a Montgomery street store on Saturday, March 2. Police say the first man pulled out a black handgun—which later turned out to be fake—and said "give me the money." While police say the victim didn't yet know the gun was fake, he reportedly grabbed the alleged robber's hand, causing the gun to drop to the floor and shatter.

This week, Bloomfield officials changed township law to allow barbershops to keep later hours. Under the new change, barbershops and nail salons can stay open until 8 p.m. on weekdays and 9 p.m. on weekends.

Police: Two Men Caught Trying to Steal Car

Bloomfield police officers interrupted two East Orange men in the middle of an attempted car theft, police said.
