Bloomfield's Christina Lembo Laid to Rest Friday

The Bloomfield community said its final goodbyes Friday to Christina Lembo, almost one week after the 16-year-old soccer player was killed in a tragic car accident just blocks from her home.

The latest in the Memphis the pit bull saga has the Bloomfield council and Board of Health (BOH) once again pitted against each other. The council last week passed a resolution proposing the township's attorney draft some sort of settlement, Bloomfield Life reported, to end a months-long feud between the township, BOH and dog trainers Jeff and Diana Coltenback, who wish to adopt the dog.

Donations are still trickling in, but the second annual Bloomfield Charity Gala netted as much as $30,000 in donations Wednesday night.

A 332-unit rental development at 225 Belleville Ave. got the green light Tuesday, Bloomfield Life reported. The project, which has been under consideration since March, is comprised of three four-story buildings on 12.5 acres.

This past week, Bloomfield High School took part in the “Week of Respect” to raise awareness of the potential dangers of bullying. The New Jersey Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying Law designates the week beginning the first Monday in October of each year as a “Week of Respect” in New Jersey.

The state Department of Treasury is working to assist residents in many Essex County towns whose mail, sent to government offices between Sept. 7 and Sept. 10, burned in a truck fire last month. Affected zip codes begin with 070 to 076, 078, 079, 088 and 089.
