Taste Of Bloomfield Makes This The Best Spring Ever

Taste of Bloomfield returns to Oakeside on Sunday, April 6.

Join the food community of Bloomfield for a late afternoon of fun as everyone enjoys sumptuous offerings from fine restaurants in Bloomfield and the surrounding area. Taste of Bloomfield returns to Oakeside Sunday, April 6, 4 to 6 p.m. With spring in the air, and buds emerging on the trees, the grounds and home at Oakeside are the perfect setting for  this annual event.

Often overlooked by the food media who are more impressed with who was on television rather than what is on the plate, Bloomfield is full of culinary surprises. French, Greek, Jamaican, Pan-Latin, Mexican, New American, and Southern cuisine are all waiting to be discovered in town. The Oakes Estate on Belleville Avenue is known for its architecture and landscape architecture. The building and ground are now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and house the Oakeside Bloomfield Cultural Center for history and arts programs in the township.

The Oakes family was one of the important industrial families in Essex County. The house and grounds were donated to the township of Bloomfield upon the death of Jean Doswell Oakes with the intention of being a cultural center. Of course having such a gem in town often is met with whispers of “how much is that place costing me?” Oakeside is a self sustaining non-profit deriving income by serving as Bloomfield’s premier location for weddings and corporate gatherings.

Taste of Bloomfield celebrates the restaurant community of Bloomfield while providing another source of income for this historic property. At $30 a ticket ($25 in advance) where else can you take a culinary journey of the world while supporting an important piece of local culture – its a bargain!
