Restaurant Week Profile: Vinnie's Parkview Pizzeria and Restaurant

This fun and family-friendly restaurant is located in the heart of the North Center business district. With "Tony the Butler" at the front door, you can't miss it!

Bloomfield’s first-ever Restaurant Week is happening now, from March 4-10, with twenty-four participating restaurants offering special prix-fixe menus of their very best cuisine.

As part of our continuing  coverage, Patch recently sat down with Pat Pontoriero, owner of participating restaurant Vinnie’s Parkview Pizzeria and Restaurant, about his plans for Restaurant Week.

About the Owner:  “I bought the place in 1990 from [restaurant namesake] Vinnie Lombardo, who owned it since 1970,” says Pontoriero.  “I used to work for Vinnie when I was a kid, about 15 years old.”

“I love the restaurant business.  I love meeting people and talking to people.”

What will be on the menu for Restaurant Week:  “Some of our customer favorites: ziti romano, penne vodka, fried calamari, specialty pizzas and shrimp hotsie-totsie – fried shrimp in a spicy, chunky marinara sauce.”

Other customer favorites that may be on the menu are “pork chops ariabiato in a spicy sauce with mushrooms and hot pepper, capellini with broccoli rabe and shrimp and lobster ravioli with shrimp in a pink sauce.”

Best thing about Vinnie’s:  “We make everything from scratch.  We bread our own chicken, veal and eggplant.  It’s more expensive to run a restaurant that way but we don’t want to cut corners.”

What you may not know about Vinnie’s:  The mannequin stationed outside the front door of Vinnie’s -- an elderly butler holding a stack of menus -- is named Tony.

“Someone gave him to me as a gift when we moved to this location in 2004.  We used to be on Bay and Broad Street.”

Something else to know:  “We’re open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.  We have full delivery menu.”  Order online: www.vinniespizza.com  For in-house dining, BYOB.

People come back for:  “Great pizza.”

Why go to Vinnie’s for Restaurant Week?  “Good service and good food.  We’re a clean establishment.”
