Mayor to Bag Groceries for Charity at Brookdale ShopRite

McCarthy will be an "honorary grocery bagger" to help fight hunger on September 21 from 10-11:30 a.m.

September is National Hunger Action Month. To participate in the nationwide effort to help alleviate hunger, Mayor Raymond McCarthy will be serving as an honorary grocery bagger at the Brookdale ShopRite on Wednesday, September 21.

Governor Chris Christie has declared that day an Official Day to Help Fight Hunger.  Governors across six states, including New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland, have issued proclamations declaring September 21 as “ShopRite Partners In Caring Day.”  As dignitaries throughout all six states bag groceries at their local ShopRite stores,they will to raise awareness and funds for food banks in their community.

Nearly 50 million Americans, including 17 million children, suffer from food insecurity, according to ShopRite Partners In Caring, a year-round, community-based charity that helps fight hunger.  Since its inception in 1999, Raising  awareness and inspiring action within their local communities through hunger-fighting initiatives has been its goal.  ShopRite Partners In Caring has donated more than $27 million to local food banks that support 1,700 charities in providing food assistance throughout the Northeast.
