In honor of its upcoming two-year anniversary, Anthony's Cheesecake Cafe will soon be serving dinner.
The popular café will be open three nights a week for dinner, starting September 27, said owner Anthony Lauro. Already one of Bloomfield’s top breakfast and lunch destinations, Anthony’s will mark its two-year anniversary on October 1.
“September 27 will be a soft opening,” explained Lauro, sitting outside his café last week with co-owner Philip Byrne. “Later on there will be a big grand opening.”
On the menu will be homemade soups, fresh salads and appetizers to start, with specialty seafood, meat and vegetarian entrees. New seasonal and traditional dishes, which will include lasagna, shrimp scampi and skirt steak, will be served, along with nightly specials. And of course, an array of homemade deserts will be offered to top off every meal, including the 40-plus flavors of cheesecake that has made the cafe locally famous.
Dinner prices, he said, will be very affordable.
“Fall is here, summer’s over, we want to do some good comfort food for people,” he said. “Like garlic mashed potatoes and skirt steak - just like my grandfather used to make.”
Located at 71 Washington St. near Bloomfield Avenue, the friendly neighborhood eatery will eventually be part the town center redevelopment area. For this reason, Lauro said, it was a good time to expand the restaurant’s hours.
“A lot of customers have been asking, ‘Are you open for dinner?’ I wanted to accommodate everyone,” he said. “With the new redevelopment happening, I thought it would be a great idea to start serving dinner.”
Commuters can stop in for dinner after work when they get off the train to have
dinner and relax, he said. “Many people getting off the train at night don't even know we're here so now. It's time to change that.”
Anthony’s Café will be open from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights starting September 27. Reservations are being accepted now.
“We’re giving out a gift to everyone who purchases an entrée, to celebrate our anniversary,” said Lauro.
When asked what the gift would be, he smiled. “We’ll keep it a surprise.”
