Team beats Bloomfield Collision in 13-16-year-old division to cap 14-0 season.

The championship game was played at Wrights Field in front of 150+ fans between Bloomfield Collision (9-4) managed by Nick Lembo and Nutley Park Shoprite (13-0) managed by Tommy Mesce. The action started right away when Bloomfield Collision’s, shortstop, Brandon Bellot knocked in the first run of the game Brian Montalvo who reached base after getting hit by a pitch. Marcus Wolf and Brandon came around to score after Eric Dolph singled to right. Shoprite started chipping away with one run in the bottom of the first inning, two runs in the bottom of the second inning but really turned on the jets in the bottom of the third after AJ Shannon led off with a single then stole 2 bases to setup an rbi opportunity for James Howell who sent a bloop single to left. James Morrissey then reached base after getting hit by a pitch, stole second base and advanced to third on a fielder’s choice. Henry Morales knocked Morrissey in with a single to left for Shop-Rite to take the lead 5-4. Shoprite would then hold onto the lead for the next 6 innings behind good pitching and great defense eventually completing the 9 inning game and Nutley Park Shoprite’s undefeated 14-0 season in the Championship. Nutley Park Shoprite’s Mike Mesce pitched 4 innings allowing 2 earned runs and A.J Shannon from Shoprite lead both teams in hits going 4 for 5. The Bloomfield Babe Ruth Summer season starts in July.
