WHY GO:   This charming musical is based on the 1996 film of the same name.  It details the story of a young woman who is released from prison and decides to start a new life in a small mid-western town.  She finds a place for herself working at the Spitfire Grill.  But she – and the town – has old wounds that need healing, and it takes an unusual contest to pull everyone together to learn from one another and about themselves.

WHY GO: Essex County is offering a free, outdoor showing of Monster House (PG) where three teens discover that their neighbor's house is really a living, breathing, scary monster.  Safe family fun!

WHY GO:   “October Tails,” is Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center’s annual Halloween-themed dog walk fundraiser.  Proceeds will fund Paws for Patients, a canine therapy program for patients.   The centerpiece of “October Tails” is a Halloween costume contest for dogs, with prizes in the following categories: Most Original, Funniest, Most Heartwarming and Best in Show. The event also features children’s activities and a poster contest, games, agility demonstrations, obedience games and vendors.     www.octobertails.com

WHY GO:  Come visit this creepy genetically modified food processing factory as an “employee.” You will meet your deranged co-workers and see what the boss is feeding them for lunch. Beware: Many of the new employees don't make it through the night shift!
COST:  $18 for Adults, $15 for Children 12 and under. $30 For Rapid Processing Ticket (VIP),   ** “Not-so-Scary” Kids’ Sunday Matinees from 2 pm-6 pm. Tickets are $8 a person and adults must be accompanied by a child age 12 and under.

COST:  Admission to the stadium is free, but most activities will have a fee. Admission to the haunted house is $20 for adults and $15 for students. The hayride is $5, and games are $1. Mystery dinner reservations must by made by the Wednesday prior and cost $20, or $25 for dinner with wine/beer.

WHY GO:   This presentation will take a look at the life of America’s favorite troubled soul. The 19th Century poet, fiction writer, editor and literary critic is best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre and was one of the earliest American writers of the short story.

WHY GO:  Four elderly New Englanders, tormented by a shared secret, gather to tell each other scary stories.  One day, the members of their “Chowder Society” begin to die in ways that may be supernatural.  This horror film has an all-star cast including Melvyn Douglas, John Houseman, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr, Patricia Neal, and, in his last film, Fred Astaire.   Great movie for Halloween

Turtle Back Zoo will be open from 4-9pm for safe trick or treating. Come in costume and ride the "spooky train" (weather permitting) or enjoy the magical talents of master magician Joe Fisher.  Event will be held rain or shine.
