Montclair Film Festival Starts Today

The much-anticipated Montclair Film Festival starts Tuesday, May 1 and runs through Sunday, May 6, and organizers are warning that some films have already sold out.

As of Friday, all remaining tickets had been released for sale—and anyone who wants to go is urged to buy their tickets as soon as possible.

The festival opens Tuesday evening with a special screening of the New Jersey comedy, The Oranges, starring Oliver Platt and Hugh Laurie, and celebrates New Jersey talent, including Judy Blume, Chris Rock, Pat Cleveland, and others throughout the festival week.

The event also features live participation by Kathleen Turner, Olympia Dukakis, Michael Moore, and Patrick Wilson.

Bob Feinberg, the co-founder and chairman of the project, said he set out to create a film festival for the town of Montclair that would serve as a focal point for the cinematic arts, an economic engine and an expression of cultural and artistic diversity.

In honor of the film festival, many businesses in Upper Montclair and elsewhere will be staying open later than usual, until at least 7 p.m.

There also will be two trolleys running on Friday evening, all day on Saturday and all day on Sunday.
