From Jazz to Soul - A Silver Fox Songs Musical Showcase

Please join us on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 2pm for a free half hour of Jazz.  From Jazz to Soul is a Silver Fox Songs Musical Showcase.  Join us on a musical journey from a time when the “First Lady of Song”, Ella Fitzgerald graced the stage to when the “Queen of Soul”, Aretha Franklin ruled the airways.  Through the music, the magic and the message, there is something for everyone.  Featuring songs by Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Etta James, Martha and the Vandellas, Mary Wells, Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight

Silver Fox songs is a performance series specifically developed to contribute to a better quality of life for senior citizens by providing professional live music to the organizations and facilities that celebrate them. Each showcase features vocalist Rhonda Denét presenting her remarkable interpretations of jazz and popular standards from the 30s through the 70s. At the end of the presentation, audience members are encouraged to share stories that may have been sparked by the songs performed.

Rhonda Denét enjoyed performing for nursing homes and similar organizations throughout her youth in the Washington, DC area. While in graduate school at Florida State University, she again had the opportunity to perform for older populations. During this time she began to develop the idea for a series as her jazz and popular standards repertoire grew. Over time she continued to revisit the idea as she returned to New York City and began creating and producing cabaret shows.  She knew that a dedicated series that would provide consistent, long term, recurring live entertainment was a novel approach but wasn’t sure how to bring forth such and undertaking.
