A sensation on Broadway, this screwball comedy will leave you teary-eyed with laughter. The tenor “Il Stupendo,” is scheduled to sing the lead in Otello, but chaos ensues when his wife mistakes an autograph-seeker hidden in his closet for a secret lover, then is accidentally given a double dose of tranquilizers and is presumed dead. But somehow, the show must go on! What follows is a chain-reaction of mistaken identities, backstage shenanigans, double entendres and innuendoes – a roller coaster of fun!

WHY GO: Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts (SMAPA) will present the talented dancers of The Performance Workshop Ensemble, along with other scholarship students from SMAPA. SMAPA is celebrating 16 years as a non-profit arts education organization serving Montclair and neighboring communities.  All proceeds from this concert will benefit Scholarship Funds which serve hundreds of children each year.  This year SMAPA has chosen to honor Samuel Huber for his consistent commitment and support of SMAPA and the Performance Workshop Ensemble over the past 16 years.  SMAPA is proud to graduate 3 senior members, Marisa Illingworth, Lauren Bomberg and Shannon Toomey all of whom will attend colleges or universities in the fall.  This year’s theme is IMAGINE

CALDWELLS

WHAT:

WHY GO:  Janet has been a resident of Caldwell for more than 17 years. While she has always been fascinated with nature, and relatively recently that she realized her true creative passion: observing and photographing birds - her art has expanded to include other flying creatures - notably picturesque butterflies and moths, not to overlook her beautiful photos of trees, flowers, landscapes, as well as other animals.

WHY GO:  We Bought A Zoo (PG, 2012) 124 min. Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson and Thomas Haden Church.   After the loss of his wife, a father moves his young family to the California countryside to start his life over. He purchases a large house complete with a struggling zoo and plans to renovate and re-open it.  Financial troubles arise and he fights to save the zoo.

WHY GO Community members of all ages from near and far are invited to stroll the Avenue sidewalks on June 9 to view the show and enjoy Caldwell’s shops and restaurants along the way.  Event- registered artists and fine crafters will show their work in the categories of fine art in all mediums, photography, and sculpture and fine art crafts. An eight- to 12-foot length of display art fencing will be provided to registered artists, many of whom will be offering their work for sale.  Professional art jurors will select pieces from the show to be presented in the Winners' Circle on the Caldwell Green, located at the corner of Bloomfield and Roseland avenues.

  The artwork will be on exhibit from May 24 through July 24
WHY GO: An art major in college, Mrs. Hall has been practicing her craft for over 40 years. Working in opaque watercolors, the exhibit will feature 13 pieces painted between 2002 and 2011.

WHY GO  Friday, June 8th: Festivities kick-off Friday with a concert in Peter Francisco Park by popular Portuguese Folklore singer, Quim Barreiros at 9:30pm. 

Saturday, June 9th: You will find a Sidewalk Sale by Ferry Street businesses. 
From 12pm-11pm – you will find local DJ’s, dance groups and performances at the Peter Francisco Park stage. 
At 3pm they will transmitted on a large screen – the Portugal vs. Alemanha game, part of the European Championship Tournament Cup. 

Sunday, June 10th: Sunday morning there will races for adults and children. A 5k race starts at 9am from the Iberia Restaurant Parking Lot ($20 registration day of race) – winners get a mountain bike.  There are also Kiddie dash starting at 9:45am for children 8 and under. All participants will receive medals. 
The official Parade starts on Ferry Street at 3pm but there will be performance all day from 12-9pm on the Peter Francisco Park stage.

WHY GO: “Sordid Lives”: A black comedy about white trash! This raucous comedy was nominated for over 30 awards during its long run in Los Angeles.   When Peggy, a good Christian woman, hits her head on the sink and bleeds to death after tripping over her lover's wooden legs in a motel room, chaos erupts in Winters, Texas.  This play contains adult language and themes, and is not suitable for children. 
COST: Tickets are $15, with a $2 discount for senior citizens and students with ID.
