It's A Seusstastic Weekend
There are all sorts of events to keep kids busy this weekend
It’s a Seusstastic weekend with several celebrations honoring the beloved author’s birthday! Outgrown Dr. Seuss? No worries, the agenda also includes movies, mother/daughter yoga, theater, a teen and family night, a parade, a family-friendly ecological event, and lots more! 1) Bnai Keshet Kinder Keshet
Where/When: , 99 S. Fullerton Ave, Montclair. Friday, March 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Why Go: A fun and engaging way to welcome Shabbat with children. Enjoy songs and stories followed by a potluck dinner. Non-members are welcome!
Pricing: Those attending are asked to bring a vegetarian or dairy dish for six or make a donation of $18 per family and to RSVP to Bnai Keshet, 973-746-4889.

2) Meet the Authors J&P Voelkel at Watchung Booksellers
Where/When: Watchung Booksellers 54 Fairfield Street, Montclair. Friday, March 4 at 4 p.m.
Why Go: If your kids are fans of the Jaguar Stones adventure series, then swing by Watchung Booksellers to meet the authors!
Pricing: Free.
3) Mother/Daughter Yoga and a Movie
Where/When: Montclair International Film Festival Headquarters, 494 Bloomfield Ave., Montclair. Friday, March 4 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Why Go: Moms and daughters can stretch out the week’s kinks then enjoy a screening of Freaky Friday. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat (yoga mats will also be available for sale at the event). RSVP tootsiepop707@gmail.com.
Pricing: $20/adult, $15/child, proceeds go towards the MIFF.
4) Once Upon a Mattress at Mt. St. Dominic Academy
Where/When: , 3 Ryerson Ave., Caldwell. Friday and Saturday, March 4 and 5 at 8 p.m., Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m.
Why Go: Check out some local young talent from area high schools giving their rendition of this Broadway favorite, based on the Princess and the Pea fairytale.

5) A Dr. Seuss Readers Theater Production
Where/When: 30 Clinton Road, West Caldwell. Saturday, March 5 at 4 p.m.
Why Go: Kids in 3rd through 5th grade can act out a selection of classic Dr. Seuss stories and get treated to some pizza. Practice begins at 1 p.m. with a performance at 4 p.m.

6) Dr. Seuss Celebration at the Salvation Army
Where/When: The Salvation Army Montclair Citadel, 13 Trinity Place, Montclair. Saturday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Why Go: Celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday with games, food, storytelling, raffles, prizes and more! The Family Service League and PNC Foundation are sponsoring this first annual celebration to promote early literacy in children and to encourage parents to be their child’s first teacher.

7) Green Eggs and Ham Fundraiser
Where/When: Edgemont Montessori, 20 Edgemont Road, Montclair. Saturday, March 5 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Why Go: This annual fundraiser for Montclair’s Montessori magnet boasts some big raffle items this year (like an iPad for example). Families will enjoy a buffet breakfast with green eggs and ham, of course, plus activities, games, crafts, and the much-anticipated raffle!
Pricing: $30 per family plus the cost of raffle tickets, proceeds go towards a variety of opportunities for teachers, students, and staff beyond the basic school budget such as Montessori materials and grants for additional classroom materials.
8) Family Night at the
Where/When: Caldwell Community Center, 9 Provost Sq, Caldwell. Saturday, March 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Why Go: If your love of swim parallels your love of movies, then you’re in luck. The Caldwell Community Center will show a family friendly film in the pool room while you swim!
Pricing: Free, no membership required.
9) Teen Night at the
Where/When: Caldwell Community Center, 9 Provost Sq, Caldwell. Saturday, March 5 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Why Go: After Family Night ends, the Caldwell Community Center gets turned over to tweens/teens ages 11 -15 for a night of games, gym and swim.
Pricing: Free, no membership required.
10) Despicable Me at the
Where/When: Montclair Public Library, 50 S. Fullerton Ave., Montclair. Saturday, March 5 at 1:30 p.m.
Why Go: A free hit movie + free popcorn & soda = Saturday afternoon fun. The United Way Family Success Center in partnership with the Montclair public Library and Citibank are sponsoring the event. Families who live in the North Essex area can register by calling United Way of Northern New Jersey at 973-746-4235.
Pricing: Free.
11) Nutley St Patrick’s Day Parade
Where/When: Parade route starts at 1 p.m. at Holy Family Church, 28 Brookline Avenue, Nutley.
Why Go: Bagpipes and lots of green, plus music, food, drink and “Irish Fun” are promised at the parade’s after-party.
Pricing: The parade is free, the parade after-party is $25 for adults, $10 ages 12 -18, under 11 are free. Tickets are $20 if purchased in advance. Go here for more information.
12) Zero Waste Event
Where/When: Bnai Keshet 99 S. Fullerton Ave., Montclair. Sunday, March 6 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Why Go: The Zero Waste Event promises a fun and educational way to learn about garbage and its impact on the environment. Gray Russell, the environmental coordinator for Montclair, will speak about the “It’s In Our Power” campaign, and the things you can do to clean up your waste stream and reduce energy usage. Attendees will also learn about composting, creating safe lawns and native gardens and Montclair Cadette Troop 20348 will present an exhibit/game to educate people on waste free lunches.
