Great Nonprofits Making a Difference

Patch Picks serves up five awesome organizations in or around town.

Bloomfield Patch's newest feature Patch Picks highlights editor and reader picks of great local businesses, destinations, services, organizations, ways to spend a day off, and more. 

Each week, you’ll find useful lists to help you, your family, friends, and significant others find the best places for everything from Sunday brunch to New Year’s Eve celebrations, pumpkin patches, date night destinations, florists, girlfriend nights out, kids party places, parks and more.

This week, Patch Picks take a look at just some nonprofit organizations in and around town.

BEF is at the forefront of giving back to schools in town. Members, most of whom are graduates of Bloomfield High School, help provide scholarships, training programs and after-school programs to students.

Bloomfield's NTNN volunteers donate their time and attention to caring for the elderly in town - whether it's shoveling snow or going grocery shopping. NTNN also maintain a caring environment for homeless animals at the Bloomfield John A. Bukowski Animal Shelter.

Partnered with a dozen and a half human services agencies, United Way of Bloomfield provides programs that every resident in town can take advantage of during a time of need.

The Pantry, located in Montclair, has been reaching out to less fortunate families in the area since 1982. Twice a week, it distributes bags full of groceries to those in need and it also accepts clothing donations.

The Bloomfield-based NJPA is the founding chapter of the nation's largest peace organization. NJPA hosts educational events focused on preserving peace.
