Construction on Watchung Ave. Bridge to Begin Monday, Expect Delays

Expect partial lane closures along Watchung Avenue on or about March 21, when the New Jersey Turnpike Authority begins replacement of the bridge over the Garden State Parkway.

It is recommended that travelers using northbound or southbound Watchung Avenue exit (151 off the GSP) to find an alternative route until construction is completed. Those using Watchung Avenue for local travel should also seek an alternative route during morning and evening rush hours.

Beginning on or about April 11, Watchung Avenue will be limited to two lanes, one eastbound and one westbound. During this phase of construction, the following traffic patterns will be established:

• There will be no access from the GSP northbound to Watchung Avenue heading westbound (no left turn)
• There will be no access from the GSP southbound onto Watchung Avenue heading westbound (no left turn)

These detours and traffic patterns will change throughout the construction process, expected to take one year to complete.
