A Summer of Fun For Everyone

Recreation Department will offer a little something for everyone this summer.

This summer is shaping up to be loads of fun for Bloomfield kids and their families. In addition to summer camp and , the Recreation Department will host the 2011 Summer of Fun, a free summer concert series that is sponsored by PNC Bank.

The festivities kick off on Thursday, July 7 at 7 p.m. in Pulaski Park with a performance by the band, Sweeter Than Honey. Following the musical act will be a showing of the movie, Despicable Me.

The following week on July 12, the show moves to Brookside Park where Jersey's own rock band, The Kootz, stops by for a night of "Rock n' Roll Fiber". Why the catchy slogan you ask? According to the band's website, the name is a play on the fact that most members of the group are over the age of 50.

This summer will surely be a fun one for all, including those with special needs according to Special Needs Director John Baltz. "While some towns separate special needs children; we promote inclusion," said Baltz. All special needs children going to recreation programs this summer, such as the sports clinics, will take part in the same activities as the peers.

In the event they are needed, shadow counselors are provided for the children, according to Baltz. In addition, he commended the work of the head of the Recreation Department, Anthony Nesto, for his hard work in bringing fun activities to the town. "He is always on the lookout for new ideas".
