Cancer Prevention Foundation is a Personal Mission

HOBOKEN, NJ – Madeline Fiadini LoRe’s successful battle with cancer resulted in the emergence of a charitable initiative that continues to saves the lives of Hudson County’s underserved population.

The Bayonne, New Jersey resident was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at age 32 and again in her early fifties when she learned that she had breast cancer. Compounding the impact of the insidious disease, LoRe also lost her brother to liver cancer. The result of these illnesses and the accompanying heartache compelled LoRe to focus on developing a charitable initiative that would bring the best possible cancer prevention opportunities to citizens of Hudson County.

The Madeline Fiadini LoRe Foundation for Cancer Prevention (MFL Foundation) is a non-profit organization focused on cancer prevention through an aggressive approach to community awareness and early detection activities. The Foundation targets its efforts on making cancer tests and screenings available to an underserved constituency, the working poor, including individuals who are uninsured or under insured and above the poverty level.

LoRe’s efforts have also resulted in the establishment of two major health centers at the Bayonne Hospital; The John Fiadini Outpatient Oncology Center and The Madeline Fiadini LoRe Women’s Center. These facilities welcome approximately 2,500 patients annually with the Women’s Center performing as many as 10,000 procedures per year.

With a focus on cancer prevention, the MFL Foundation, begun in June of 2008, raises funds to bring much needed cancer screenings to those who are unable to access necessary tests. The Foundation focuses on individuals meeting simple financial and medical criteria and have the ability to access Jersey City Medical Center, Bayonne Medical Center, Christ Hospital, and Hoboken Medical Center. When criteria are met the Foundation pays for breast, colon, PSA, and/or oral screenings ordered by a physician’s prescription. Additionally, the Foundation provides funding for non-covered costs including the physician and anesthesia fees for colonoscopies ordered for charity care patients.

Additionally, the Foundation has partnered with DermOne Dermatology Center to expand the range of services provided to uninsured and underserved populations in North Jersey. The DermOne has thirty offices statewide, including a facility in Bayonne. Uninsured Individuals interested in a full body skin cancer screening should phone the DermOne call center at 855-853-0636 to schedule an appointment. Mentioning the Foundation, filling out an MFL application, and providing verification of lack of insurance will entitle the individual to a free scan.

“Our Mission is to make cancer prevention programs available to the community we serve. Our focus is to grant access to the test and/or screenings necessary to those individuals who may otherwise be denied. Our hope is to enrich the life of every individual in need, one at a time, stated LoRe, quoting the organization’s mission statement”

Anyone who is interested in learning more about the MFL Foundation can call the Foundation office at 201-437-9100.
