Bloomfield Bombers 13-Under Team Splits a Doubleheader Against Millburn and Hackensack Saturday at Wright's Field

The Bloomfield Bombers 13-Under team split a doubleheader against Millburn and Hackensack Saturday at Wright’s Field.

In the first game against Millburn, Bombers pitcher Manny Corporan started and won, striking out eight batters in five strong innings of the 5-3 victory.

The Bombers’ scoring started early. In the bottom of the first, Dylan Piacenza and Ed Abplanalp both walked and Emmanuel Corporan reached on an error scoring Piacenza for a 1-0 lead. With Ablanalp on second Sean Demo doubled to make the score 2-0 after the first inning.

Millburn quickly caught up, scoring two runs on a couple of hits and several Bombers errors. That made the score 2-2 heading into the bottom of the third.  The Bombers regained the lead, 4-2, with a rally started by Abplanalp plus some errors and a sacrifice bunt.  Each team later tacked on one more run making the score 5-3 going into the bottom of the fifth when the Bombers went down one- two-three. 

Abplanalp came in to close the out the game. Millburn went down in order in each of their last two chances and the Bombers completed their 5-3 win.

The second game of the doubleheader was not quite like the first for Bloomfield.  Gabby Velez, the starting pitcher for the Hackensack Gators, kept the Bombers off balance all game long scattering seven hits over five 5 innings in Bloomfield’s 9-3 defeat.

Piacenza started for Bloomfield but came out of the game with no outs in the second.  Hackensack jumped out on an early 2-0 lead scoring on a hit and fielding errors by Bloomfield.  Hackensack got one more in the top of the second when Demo replaced Piacenza on the mound.

The Bombers scored in the bottom of the second. There were two hits by Corporan and Demo and both scored on an RBI single by Elliot Urgent that made the score, 3-2.

Hackensack picked up six runs over the next four innings with some hits and a few errors by Bloomfield to make the score 9-2, Hackensack.  Bloomfield picked up one more run in the 7th when Robert Reboa doubled home Urgent, making the final score 9-3.
