The Bloomfield Bombers had a great weekend, going 2-0 to advance to the championship games in their Saturday and Sunday Cerbo Leagues.

The first game of the Bombers’ weekend was in Stroudsburg against the Thunder on Saturday. Dylan Piacenza started for the Bombers on the hill. The Bombers and the Thunder both did not score in the first inning. In the second, the Bombers put up 4 runs on hits and walks.

The Thunder then countered the Bombers’ staggering hitting inning with five runs of their own for a 5-4 lead.

The next two innings where back-and-forth pitching battles from both sides. But in the fourth, two runs from the win-hungry Stroudsburg team put the Thunder up, 7-4. The Bombers never gave up and tied the game at 7 in the sixth inning. The game would then be scoreless until it went into extra innings. The Bombers put up three runs in the top of the 8th for the 10-7 victory.  Craig Dittrich drove in the winning run.

In the second game, Manny Corporan pitched against the Expos on Sunday. In the top of the first inning, the Bombers let up one run to start it off. The Bombers responded in the bottom of the first, making the score 1-1.

The Expos put runners on first and third with an error and a single. And then a double drove in two to make the score 3-1. The Bombers went down in short order in the bottom of the second.

Neither team scored in the third. The Expos kept their bats active, putting up another run in the top of the fourth, making it 4-1.

Dittrich led off the bottom of the fourth with single for the Bombers but later was caught stealing before Manny Corporan blasted a single. Demo also singled to keep the hit train going. Kyle Tice's single scored Corporan from third base. After a walk by Rob Reboa, Elliot Urgent singled to score Demo and Tice. This evened up the score at 4.

Keeping their offense alive, the Expos scraped two runs making it 6-4. But the Bombers fought back, having six runners cross the plate in the bottom of the fifth.

Piacenza, Eddie Abplanalp and Corporan reached base safely, setting up an RBI single by Demo. Kyle DiMatteo, Tice, Reboa and Urgent all helped the Bombers cause with RBI singles. The score after five innings was 10-6, Bombers.

Bloomfield's relief pitcher, Abplanalp, shut out the Expos with no hits in the 6th. The Bombers offense was shut down also in the sixth.

The Expos, on their way to a loss, suddenly fought back and after a few hits, tied up the game, 10-10.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Bombers needed a run to win. The Bombers managed to load the bases with few walks and a bomb off the big wall in left at Wrights Field by Corporan. And in a bases-loaded, two out situation, Kyle Tice singled to left field scoring Dittrich to win the game, 11-10.

The Bombers advanced and will be playing two finals games on Saturday and Sunday.
