Bloomfield Bombers 13 Under Baseball Team Wins First Game of Double Header before Second Game Suspended By Rain

The Bloomfield Bombers 13-and-Under baseball team won the first game of a scheduled doubleheader Saturday, 6-2, against the Stroudsburg Thunder. The second game was suspended by rain with the Bombers leading, 10-1. 

The Bombers opened up the first game in great fashion.  Manny Corporan started the game on the mound for the home team Bombers.  Corporan finished the first with a one, two, three inning.  In the bottom of the first, Dylan Piacenza led off with a walk, making it to third with a single by Eddie Abplanalp who stole second base. That set up a 2-run RBI double by Craig Dittrich.

After several steals by the Bombers, Sean Demo’s infield single scored Liam Bejasa, pinch running for Dittrich.  In the next inning, one run scored for the Thunder, leaving the score 3-1 after two innings of play.

In the top of the third inning, the Thunder scored another run, making the score 3-2.  In the bottom of the fourth, Robert Reboa singled, setting up Piacenza’s single that scored Bejasa, pinch running for Reboa, making the score, 4-2.

After a 15-minute delay due to inclement weather, the Bombers came out strong. Corporan had a one, two, three inning in the top of the fifth and the Bombers then rallied at the plate.  Corporan singled to start the rally and Demo reached on a fielder’s choice.  Demo stole second, leaving an RBI chance for Elliot Urgent who came through with a single up the middle to score Demo.  Kyle Tice singled to left field to bring Urgent to third.  Kyle DiMatteo lined out to end the inning on a great play by the Thunder outfielder. The Bombers brought across two runs that inning. 

Corporan shut down the side to give the Bombers a win in the first game, 6-2, pitching a complete game, allowing four hits and two runs.

After a break between games, the umpires decided to get the second game going before the rain. The Bombers again were the home team as they took the field with Eddie Abplanalp starting on the mound.

The Thunder started their bats quickly, going up, 1-0.  That did not stop the Bombers offensive attack. Dylan Piacenza led off with a single and stole second.  A single by Abplanalp scored Piacenza to tie it, 1-1.

A double by Dittrich scored Abplanalp making it, 2-1.  A single by Corporan put runners on first and third with no outs.  After Corporan stole second, Demo hit an RBI ground out to score Dittrich.  Urgent singled hard up the middle which scored Corporan making it, 4-1, Bombers. Tice drew a walk and was part of a double steal that put runners on second and third. DiMatteo executed a suicide squeeze, plating Urgent and Tice scored on an overthrow to first.  At the end of the first inning, it was 6-1, Bombers.

Abplanalp retired the side in the second keeping the score the same.  In the bottom of the second, Piacenza singled to start the rally. Abplanalp walked and Corporan singled, bringing Piacenza home.  The score was 7-1, Bombers and the lead grew when Demo singled to score Abplanalp from third. Urgent singled up the middle to load the bases. Tice then doubled, scoring two men.  At that moment, the sky opened up and rain poured down.

The rain put Wright’s Field under water, causing the umpires to rule the field unplayable.  The game was postponed to a later date and will resume, 10-1 Bombers in the bottom of the second.  The Bombers had a wonderful weekend and hope to find more success.
