Reader's Choice winner this week is Bloomfield's favorite "staycation" spot -- a full-service spa with lots of love
This week Patch’s Reader’s Choice Poll asked, “What is Your Favorite Place for a Staycation?” For Bloomfield readers, the choice was clear: FLIC Spa, at 388 Broad Street. After all, what better place to “get away from it all” -- right in town -- than a full-service spa that calls itself a “vacation without the flight” ? As many people will attest, there is nothing quite like Flic Spa in Bloomfield. Its exotic appearance and mood of tranquility entices visitors to enter the storefront and tasteful boutique. Inside, an artistic fountain, paintings, sculptures and imported textiles create a lovely ambiance beside the displays of jewelry, lotions, soaps, handbags and unique objects. But behind the dramatic, floral-carved silver door is …

Anthony Robert Salon opens in spacious, new Verona venue.
Things are still relatively quiet at 279 Bloomfield Ave., the new home of Jerseylicious reality star Anthony Lombardi’s salon, but that’s just because they’re settling in. This week is the salon’s soft opening, but Lombardi is planning a grand opening for next month. The sleek new space was a big undertaking for Lombardi, who has just about quadrupled his size from the tiny, four-chair salon he first opened in Verona six years ago. And, as with all construction projects, this one wasn’t quite completed by the time Lombardi had hoped. He planned on opening in April. When asked to describe how the transition went, the ever-energetic and optimistic Lombardi said, “So far so good.” But he admitted he’s still “trying to figure out where …

Grab your sombrero and prepare to fiesta for the holiday, this Saturday, May 5.
Cue the mariachi band music, put on that sombrero, and grab yourself a handful of tortilla chips - Cinco de Mayo is here! This Saturday marks the celebration of Cinco de Mayo - which translates to “5th of May” - a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, observed in parts of Mexico and the United States. Often mistaken for Mexican Independence Day, Cinco de Mayo is actually a commemoration of the Battle of Puebla, a hard-won victory by the outnumbered Mexican militia over French forces in 1862, according to History.com. But here in New Jersey - Cinco de Mayo is a good excuse for some music, dancing and food. Bars and restaurants throughout our area will be joining in the fun, with live bands, food and drink specials, and parties. …
