Get messy and have fun with neighbors and friends.

On Oct. 22, the Bloomfield Open Space Trust Fund Committee will hold a fall cleanup of the Morris Canal Towpath, which runs along the Second River.
Volunteers will remove debris from the towpath while the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission pulls garbage from the river itself. The project lets you get close to nature by preserving its beauty.

The cleanup will run from 10 a.m. to noon between Newark Avenue and Wright’s Field. Volunteers will be equipped with garbage bags and gloves from the PVSC’s River Restoration division. Children under 18 should be accompanied by an adult.

The Open Space Trust Fund Committee holds several park or river cleanups each year. The spring 2011 event was in Watsessing Park, an effort jointly sponsored by the Watsessing Park Neighborhood Association. More than 100 volunteers participated, including concerned neighbors, local high school students and committee members.

To learn more about the Trust Fund visit www.ostfc.org, find them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/OpenSpace TrustFund, or send e-mail to ostfc@bloomfieldtwpnj.com.
