Crime is everywhere in Bloomfield something must be done and done now. It continues to be a very serious problem. People need to start letting the town officials know that crime is out of control.

And the garbage keeps passing through this town.
If we can't put a policeman on every corner, how about some cameras like East Newark has?

I wish is wasn't so but it has been my experience that township officials only care about themselves. Sorry...

I emailed the town council and mayor about the increasing crime, and have 2 calls into the mayors office (with no callback yet). Please let's all start a campaign to 1) take back our streets 2) demand better security and 3) finding who these gang members are and have them all arrested. I suspect the recent holdups and mugging might be the same set of thugs.
Please call and write the town council and mayor. Demand answers and action.

this is ridiculous now. the crime is getting worse n this town and no one feels safe anymore. this is the whole reason why I moved here. and what kills me is, there is a lot of great cops here and everything else, but, what is it going to take for something to happen to stop all of this?, i feel sorry for the kids who are trying to have lives, go out for the night and get jumped, mugged, or God know's what else. THIS HAS TO STOP, AND SOON! we have to nip this in the bud now before too many people get hurt or even killed.

Here is why this is happening, your municipal government is run by 'self dealing influence peddlers' who have no concern regarding street crime impact on the residents of this township. Enough influence has been peddled to self deal to the point of double the number of six figure compensated police captains, none of which have college degrees in any police related area; we only need three police captains, 12 hour shifts. You can't keep the township safe by hiding inside headquarters all day and night! The township has no plan, zero, to prevent crime; the BPD just runs from one call to the next, all the signs of a failed public safety policy. Many other townships, and not just the gold standard NYPD, have crime prevention strategies that work, surveillance etc....the difference being the local politicians in those places actually have a concern for the residents safety and aren't just in office to peddle their influence and lobby for an all expenses paid county job for their wives and themselves down in Newark!

I agree. You are very brave to speak your mind. Many would be afraid of retaliation....but many might be wanting you to run for office to make some very necessary changes.

I agree 100% with every comment! Something has to be done, we the residents have pressure the Bloomfield Government beginning with the Mayor!!!! My husband is a police officer, not in Bloomfield came home from work one day and there was a car in front of our home with a couple bring fresh if you know what I mean, he walked over knocked on window and send them away but not before checking id, then another time he came in about 4am could not get in driveway because a man and women were parked there, why?!?! They were drunk and were confused he called Bloomfield pd they parked her car and send them in a cab home. My husband was upset, they should have arrested the driver. they won't learn not to do it again if nothing is done. We deserve better!!!! Our town is falling apart in so many ways, our schools are crowded, our taxes are ridiculous and now the crime is at an all time high!!!!

I agree with everyones comment. I can tell you from my experience living in Bloomfield that we have encountered sick individuals throwing condoms, open beer bottles, tires garbage in our front lawn like it's a dump. And these people probably don't even live in Bloomfield! It's sad to hear about the police, mayor etc. They do need to do something about this town. It has so much potential and yet we get all sorts of nasty people ruining it.

You should try going to a few council meetings and a few health dept. meetings where something important is being discussed. Prepare to be truly frustrated by the bored and sneering countenance of many members and the absolutely ridiculous answers given to the people who go to try and change things. One example is when concerned citizens met with them to discuss solutions to prevent drag racing on Broughton Ave. ( You may recall the death of Christina Lembo ) and were told, after many valid suggestions, that nothing could be done and to discuss it with the BOE.

With the exception of Councilman Venezia, I haven't heard back from any of our elected officials. I have already gone to the press about this issue and the lack of response. I implore you all to call and write each council person and explain you are angry about the uptick in crime- here are their numbers
