Bloomfield Councilman Nick Joanow sent this picture of a Great Horned Owl rescued from a tree before it was cut down on Sylvan Road in Bloomfield.

Workers got quite the hoot last Saturday while attempting to cut down a tree in Bloomfield.

A Great Horned Owl was found living in the hollow section of a tree that needed to be removed following Hurricane Sandy at 141 Sylvan Rd., Bloomfield Councilman Nick Joanow said in an email.

The beautiful owl was not injured and flew away in search of a new home.

Beautiful bird, but it's a screech owl ;-)

I think this is an Eastern Screech Owl. It is much too small to be the Great Horned Owl which stand approximately 22 inches tall. The screech owls come in a red variety and are about 8-9 tall.
